A+ SIG will give members hands-on experience while studying for the A+ certification or just exploring what's indise your computer. Not only will we review subjects covered by the PC Upgrade SIG, we will delve more deeply into the inner workings of the PC and its operating systems. We'll even have lots of practice tests so you will be ready to take your certification tests when it's time.

The PC Upgrade & Troubleshooting Workshop specializes in helping HAL-PC members get their misbehaving computers back in good working order. The Workshop meets every Friday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the HAL-PC Headquarters. We have helped members with a variety of basic hardware issues including adding or replacing memory, modems, hard drives, CD burners, etc. Our SIG members are very experienced in removing viruses and spyware from infected computers. We also welcome HAL-PC members who just want to learn how to repair or upgrade a PC.

The Computer investing SIG was formed to combine members of the HAL-PC Mutual Fund SIG and the American Association of Individual Investors Computer SIG in order to look at all forms of investing used by the members. As members brought more knowledge and experience, the number of financial programs increased. Members demonstrate the programs they use to assist in making investment decisions. We welcome new
members who bring a lot or no knowledge to the group. We are continually looking for people who are willing to share their experiences with us and make presentations to the group. We intend to learn from each other.

Microsoft is changing the names of its server certifications - so the MCSE SIG is now the Microsoft Server SIG! The SIG will begin studying Server 2008 on September 5th, using the Microsoft Self-Paced Training books. Over the next year, the SIG will review the three books preparing for the exams leading to the Server 2008 Administrator certification. These provide a good survey of Server 2008, even though many SIG members are interested only in learning about Server 2008 rather than taking the exams.

Music software has come a long way since the first version of "Cakewalk", a DOS MIDI sequencing program, inspired the formation of the MIDI SIG in the early 80's. There are several programs used by SIG members, in particular "Cubase" and "Ableton Live". Cubase is a series of MIDI, music sequencer and digital audio editing computer applications, created by the German firm Steinberg.
